Multimedia Works (1986-1991)

These works were built using layers of alternative materials such as wood slats, porch screen, plaster, birch bark, and discarded barn doors. These materials were used to convey affect as an assemblage of textures we experience (analogous to William James’ description of affect/emotion as the sensory feedback from your body in action, inclusive of heart rate, sweating, dryness of the mouth). The depicted scene was just a framework for the presentation of texture, like the layering of somatic experience, and was not the intended “representation”.
