Word flow photos (1991-1997, 2003-2009)

These works sought to convey the movement of affect in the spoken word, moving through space. Taken from psychotherapy transcriptions, they show words swarming into clouds, crawling off as exploratory tendrils, wrapping about and caressing each other. Words, in this way, appear to loop around their speakers and form the emotional framework within which the speakers operate as physical entities. These word trajectories constitute a symbolic frame within which action occurs. These works serve as an explicit criticism of the conceptualist dogma that dominates the art world, and makes most art sterile.
